OBITUARY
ADFIMI mourns the sudden demise of Prof. Iqbal M Khan who served as Deputy Secretary General of ADFIMI from 2003-2005.
Prof. Iqbal M Khan was the Senior Fellow Entrepreneurship at the Lahore School where he teaches Entrepreneurship and Marketing. Bachelors with Economics from Punjab University (GCU) and Masters in ELM from University of Management & Technology (UMT) with specialization in Entrepreneurship. Previously He was a lecturer in International Marketing at Punjab University 1986 to 1987. He was a Visiting Professor at Imperial College of Business Studies from1994 to 1996 (International Marketing and Entrepreneurship) at Lahore School from 1998 to 1999, at Kinnard College from 1998-2002 (Research Methodology), at University of Lahore from 2000 to 2003 (Entrepreneurship and International Marketing). He was also a visiting faculty at Pak-Aims, UMT, University of Alama Taba Tabai and Thai Chamber of Commerce University in Entrepreneurship and International Marketing.
He was the Deputy Secretary General of ADFIMI, an external agency of Islamic Development Bank from 2003-2005. He was one of top 3 lead consultants who setup SMEDA in 1999. He was also the President of a small enterprise bank from 1971-1975, (Progressive Cooperation Bank Ltd). He was designated Commercial Counselor of Pakistan Embassy in Kazakhstan 1997. He worked as consultant to the World Bank, UNICEF, UNITAR, European Union, USAID and for IDB. His research interest included Entrepreneurship, Trade Policy, Entrepreneurship Policy, Women Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, Indigenous Entrepreneurship, and Vocational Training & Entrepreneurship. He has presented papers at numerous Entrepreneurship Conferences Internationally.
His publications included: “Women Entrepreneurship and the Women Chamber of Commerce: Economic Emancipation & Clout for Pak Women” (2010),”Shifting the Centre Gravity from SME Policy to Entrepreneurship Policy” (2009), “Globalizing the Trade Policy” (2008), “Benefits and Academic Importance of Entrepreneurship Education” (2007) “ Concept & Model of Small Enterprises Hub” (2000), and books published include “Unlocking the Potential of Small Enterprises” (2004) and “Kazakhstan Business Guide” (1994).
He was a resource person for ADFIMI and managed several programmes including Entrepreneurship Development through technical support of bankers, in North Cyprus, in 2008; SME Finance During Financial Crisis in Tehran, in 2010; A comparison of analytical tools used in SME finance & Microfinance financial analysis, in North Cyprus, in 2012.
We shall always remember him for his relentless efforts for the development of Pakistan as well as of the Global Muslim Community especially in the area of entrepreneurship development. We shall also miss his friendship and his visdom.
May Allah Almighty grant him paradise and give patience to his wife, children and grandchildren to endure his absence.
