IDB Signs MoU with Malaysia to Promote Knowledge and Communication Technologies in Member Countries, 5 March 2007
In conjunction with the Jeddah Economic Forum, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Agencies of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) of the Government of Malaysia, in the area of Knowledge and Information Communication Technologies for Development (KICT4D), at a ceremony held at the Jeddah Hilton Hotel. The signing ceremony was witnessed by H. E. the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato´ Sri Najib Tun Razak, and H. E. Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, President of IDB Group. The MoU was signed by Dr. Amadou Boubacar Cisse, the Vice President of Operations on behalf of IDB , while Mr. Badlisham Ghazali, CEO, Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and Mr. Abdul Aziz Abdul Kadir, Senior VP, MIMOS Berhad, signed on behalf of MOSTI.
On the occasion, Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali said that the MoU comes as a part of the Knowledge and Information Communication Technologies for Development (KICT4D ) program adopted by the Bank. It is aimed at achieving macro-level impacts in the key areas of poverty alleviation, promotion of education, improving health, facilitating trade and women empowerment" he added. Dr. Ali pointed out that the level of collaboration with Malaysian partners involves knowledge sharing and internal capacity building in different forms including ICT4D solutions and services to support development of member countries as per IDB 1440H (2020) Vision, sharing of information and expertise in ICT4D, and jointly promoting and creating awareness on ICT4D in member countries.
